Surikov: Stable Ukraine is key to resolving crisis in the Russian-Ukrainian relations

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Ukraine should first of all deal with its internal disunion in order to overcome the crisis in the relations with Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov said in an interview to the Belarus One TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

“We need a healed and restored Ukraine in the first place,” said the Ambassador. In his words, there is still no dialogue between the official Kiev and separate districts of Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts. The parties have so far agreed on ceasefire, but the truce is disrupted from time to time.

“Until Ukraine returns to its normal existence no forecasts can be made regarding the further development of the relations between Russia and Ukraine. I believe everything will get back to normal one day. We have always been and will remain Slavonic people,” the diplomat added. The Ambassador also mentioned that his parents were buried in Ukraine. Alexander Surikov believes that the Ukrainian crisis will vanish as “a bad dream”. It simply needs time.
