Lukashenko, Makei discuss ambassador candidates to Russia

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko got familiar with proposals regarding the candidates to the post of the new Belarusian Ambassador to Russia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after the meeting with the head of state, BelTA has learned.

“The president got familiar with the proposals on some candidates to the post of Ambassador of Belarus to Russia. The president welcomed some proposals but at the same time instructed to explore other options,” the minister said.

As BelTA reported earlier, the former Ambassador to Russia Igor Petrishenko was recently appointed deputy prime minister.

Belarus expects the arrival of Russia's new ambassador Mikhail Babich soon. He will also serve as Russian president's special envoy on trade and economic cooperation with Belarus. “The arrival date was announced by [Russia's former Ambassador to Belarus Alexander] Surikov. Mikhail Babich is set to arrive in early September,” Vladimir Makei said.
