Contact Group on Ukraine to reconvene in Minsk 16 January

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - The next meeting of Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine and its Working Groups will take place on 16 January 2017, OSCE special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik told the media on 21 December.

Minsk hosted the last meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine in 2016 on 21 December. The next meeting is scheduled for 16 January. However, if needed, the parties will hold video conferences.

According to Martin Sajdik, “there was a lively exchange of proposals for the legal settlement of water supply issues and payments for water delivery”. The OSCE special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine was glad to stress that, despite the work of the Working Group on Economic Issues to remain blocked, discussion on economic issues is progressing. “We are concerned about the matter. These are difficult legal issues. That is why, unfortunately, their discussion took more time than we expected. We hope that the parties will stay committed to resolving the issue,” he said.

In the political field, the discussion focused on the issues related to the 'Steinmeier formula'.

The Working Group on Security Issues focused its attention on the full compliance with the ceasefire, disengagement of forces and hardware.

Much attention was paid to security issues at the meeting, too.

At the end Martin Sajdik expressed gratitude to the hosts for hospitability and excellent support of the meetings.
