Belarus vows to do everything to restore peace in Ukraine

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Belarus will do everything possible for restoring peace in the brotherly country of Ukraine. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Ukraine Igor Sokol made the statement in an interview with the daily newspaper of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, BelTA has learned.

“Ukrainian leadership have stated repeatedly that they positively evaluate Belarus' role in organizing the negotiations aimed at resolving the situation in Ukraine's east. In turn, Belarus will continue doing everything possible for restoring peace in the brotherly country,” said the Ambassador of Belarus.

The diplomat underlined that Belarus has always been in favor of maintaining good neighborly relations with Ukraine since the two countries have many centuries of common history and very similar cultures. “The balanced stance of Belarus and President Alexander Lukashenko on a number of matters of importance for Ukraine, including the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine's east, contributes to the constructive interstate dialogue and gives positive dynamics to the development of bilateral cooperation in all spheres,” he remarked. “There are no irresolvable problems between countries. The leaders of our countries have always been able to find mutually acceptable solutions.”

Igor Sokol added that despite the complicated geopolitical tendencies Belarus-Ukraine trade and economic cooperation advances. The growing trade turnover confirms it. In January-October 2016 Belarus-Ukraine trade totaled $3.1 billion, 10.2% up from the same period of last year. Enterprises to assemble Belarusian tractors successfully operate in Ukrainian Nezhin and Odessa. Belarusian grain harvesters are assembled in Nikolayev, lift equipment is assembled in Vyshgorod, and trolleybuses are assembled in the city of Dnepr. High-tech enterprises are being set up in Belarus using Ukrainian technologies.
