Senko: Transit of Ukrainian goods via Belarus is smooth

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – There are no problems with the transit of Ukrainian goods through the territory of Belarus, Chairman of Belarus' State Customs Committee (SCC) Yuri Senko told reporters on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

“We persuaded Russian colleagues that we can control the transit of Ukrainian goods with the use of information technology. Ukrainian goods go transit across Belarus painlessly. We organized contact points where such goods are forwarded,” Yuri Senko noted.

He recalled that in the early 2016 Russia banned the transit of Ukrainian goods through its territory to third countries. Now such goods move through the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. We were instructed to work out the procedure governing the transit of Ukrainian goods through the territory of Belarus. We worked on this issue together with the Federal Customs Service of Russia. We were offered various options including escort. But we were able to convince the Russian colleagues that it was not necessary,” Yuri Senko noted.

In his words, a transit procedure for Ukrainian goods does not differ from any other transit procedure. There are special contact points at the Belarusian-Russian border. “We send such cargo transport vehicles there so that the Russian customs could monitor the transit of these goods across the territory of Russia up to Kazakhstan. There are similar contact points at the Russian-Kazakhstani border where these transport vehicles are administered and routed,” the Chairman of the State Customs Committee said.
