Belarus to import cost-effective electricity from Ukraine

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – Belarus intends to import electricity from Ukraine taking into account economic advisability, BelTA learned from representatives of the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo as they commented on the signed memorandum on strategic cooperation with the Ukrainian company DTEK Energo.

According to the source, Belarus may import electricity from Ukraine if there is a shortage and if import is economically advisable for Belenergo and DTEK Energo. Electricity is imported to Belarus in accordance with Belarusian laws.

According to the memorandum the sides are ready to advance cooperation in the mutual export and import of electricity. The sides are ready to cooperate to export electricity from Belarus to Ukraine. DTEK Energo is ready to act as Belenergo's commercial partner to import electricity from Belarus to Ukraine.

Taking into account the high level of maintenance and repair standards at Belarusian heat generation installations the sides are interested in getting Belarusian companies involved in DTEK Energo's repair programs.

Belenergo is open to cooperation with energy companies of the neighboring countries and other countries on terms of parity of interests and economic advisability.
