Belagro 2020 expo kicks off in Minsk

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) - A solemn opening ceremony of the Belagro 2020 expo will be held in Minsk on 29 September, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The exposition will be expanded by the exhibitions Belferma (featuring the latest achievements in cattle breeding) and Belprodukt (food products). “Taking part in the exhibitions will be 360 companies. 30 of them will showcase products of foreign producers from 13 countries: Belgium, the UK, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Italy, China, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, France, Switzerland, and Sweden,” the press service of the ministry said.

Aleksandr Subbotin said that all countries subsidize their farmers to a degree. It is one of the points countries willing to join the World Trade Organization hotly argue about. “We have loss-making enterprises but their number decreases every year,” he noted.

This year Belagro is held as part of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. Its several expositions will feature companies of Russian regions: Bryansk, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov, and Voronezh oblasts. Hungarian companies will also be on show.

The collective expositions have been prepared by the Agriculture and Food Ministry, Industry Ministry, National Academy of Sciences, Belgospishcheprom Concern, Belcoopsoyuz, and all Belarusian oblasts. A wide range of food products will be displayed by 130 food and processing companies from across the country. The expo will offer a trading show of food products and consumer goods.

The official said: “We very tightly work with Chinese partners. Food sales to China increased by 2.7 times in January-July to $134 million. It is not the limit. New enterprises are being certified. Dairy industry enterprises, enterprises that process poultry meat and beef have been vetted to export their products to China.”

The business program of the Belarusian Agro-Industrial Week envisages a wide discussion of initiatives in the agricultural sector. The focus will be on the development of the sector, the export of products, implementation of innovative technologies. The program will also feature contests such as The Best Plowman, Champion of Taste, and an exhibition of breeding animals.
