WTA rankings: Sabalenka remains No. 1, Azarenka goes 29th

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus tops the WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.

Despite the defeat in the final match of the Australian Open in Melbourne, Aryna Sabalenka remains world No. 1 but her gap from Poland's Iga Swiatek is reduced to 186 points. Before the Australian Open, Aryna Sabalenka was 1,536 points ahead of Swiatek. Victoria Azarenka, who lost in the first round of the Australian Open, dropped to 29th position while Aliaksandra Sasnovich is in 149th place. The winner of the Austrlian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, Madison Keys of the United States, moved up from 14th up to 7th.

The men's ranking is headed by two-time Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner of Italy. Egor Gerasimov of Belarus goes 353rd.
