Smolski clinches sprint bronze at Commonwealth Cup leg in Raubichi

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Belarusian biathlete Anton Smolski finished third in the sprint at the fourth leg of the Commonwealth Cup, which is taking place in Raubichi, BelTA has learned.

Forty-four biathletes, 14 of them from Belarus, took to the start of the men’s sprint. National team leader Anton Smolski had a perfect shooting record and was leading after the second range. Yet, a slower final loop cost him positions, leaving him with a third-place finish time. The victory was secured by Russia’s Savely Konovalov, who finished 10 seconds ahead of Smolski. The silver medal went to Karim Khalili, with Smolski trailing him by 5 seconds.
Belarusians Maksim Varabei and Stsiapan Danilau also completed the race without penalty loops: Varabei finished seventh, while Danilau placed 11th. Other Belarusian athletes did not make the top twenty: Dzmitry Lazouski finished 25th, Mikita Labastau – 27th. Konstantin Baburov, Pavel Belko, Denis Yeremov, and Aleksandr Golyak took the 33rd to 36th positions, respectively. Aleksei Logvinov finished 38th, Andrei Gavrosh – 39th, Gleb Orlovsky – 41st, Pavel Matsul – 42nd, and Vitali Kazachenok – 43rd.
