MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The draw for the 139th Wimbledon Championships has determined the opening-round opponents for the two Belarusian players competing in the tournament, BelTA has learned.
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will face Serbian qualifier Teodora Kostovic (No. 184). Iryna Shymanovich (No. 216) will take on Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic (No. 64).Iryna Shymanovich secured her place in the main draw by advancing through qualifying. She defeated Katherine Sebov of Canada (No. 245) 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, Czech player Dominika Salkova (No. 128) 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, and Belgium’s Greet Minnen (No. 195) 6-4, 6-2. Aliaksandra Sasnovich (No. 124) narrowly missed out on the main draw after losing to Canada’s Bianca Andreescu (No. 180) 3-6, 6-7 in the final qualifying round. Earlier, she defeated Katy Dunne of the UK (No. 575) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 and Australia’s Storm Hunter (No. 185) 5-7, 6-1, 7-5.
The main draw matches of the season’s 3rd Grand Slam tournament will begin on 29 June. The women’s singles final is scheduled for 11 July, the men’s championship match is scheduled for 12 July. The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will feature a record total prize fund of £62.4 million. The men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive £3.6 million. Poland’s Iga Swiatek and Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the singles titles in 2025.
