
MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has advanced to the third round of the US Open, BelTA has learned.
Last night, the reigning US Open champion defeated Russia’s Polina Kudermetova (World No.67) 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. In the first round, Aryna Sabalenka beat Switzerland’s Rebeka Masarova (No.108) 7-5, 6-1. In the third round, she will face Canadian Leylah Fernandez (No.30).
Another Belarusian tennis player, World No.132 Victoria Azarenka, won her opening match against U.S. Hina Inoue (No.215) 7-6 (7-0), 6-4. In the second round, she defeated Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (No.45) 6-3, 6-3. She is set to compete against U.S. Jessica Pegula (No.4) in the Round of 32.
The 2025 US Open will conclude on 7 September. The prize pool for the tournament in New York is a record $90 million, with the men’s and women’s singles champions each earning $5 million.
