MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka lost to world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland, 4-6, 0-6 in the Qatar Open quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
Victoria Azarenka beat Poland’s Magdalena Frech, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the opener, then proved stronger against China’s Wang Xinyu, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, and cruised past Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, 6-0, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinal.
Iga Swiatek was the winner of the previous two editions. Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus won the tournament in 2020. The ongoing event in Doha will be over on 17 February.
