MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) - The Games of the Future running in Kazan these days are a large-scale and spectacular project at the intersection of sport, innovation and technology, said Ksenia Sankovich, Secretary General of the NOC of Belarus.
"We attended the official opening ceremony of the Games of Future and I can say that this is a step forward, a step into the next generation. At the Games of the Future, we witnessed the birth of a completely new format. I am sure that traditional sports and eSports can co-exist but if we manage to combine these two, then such an international multisport forum has a great future," Ksenia Sankovich said.
She also expressed confidence that the participants representing Belarus at the Games of Future are well prepared and will be able to prove themselves.
The Games of the Future in Kazan will be running until 3 March. The tournament has gathered more than 2,000 athletes and cyberathletes from 107 countries. Belarusians are competing in seven disciplines: phygital basketball, phygital hockey, phygital martials arts, VR cycling, battle of robots, World of Tanks and Dota 2. eSports is a new discipline that is especially popular among young people. Combining eSports with physical activity in an international tournament is an innovative approach that has no analogues in the world.
