MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) - The start of the Olympic Torch Relay in Japan on 25 March will be held without spectators. The plans were announced by the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

Such measures will be taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The exact route of the relay will be published by its organizers several hours before its arrival in the regions. These measures are taken to avoid crowds of people who are advised to follow the torch route on the internet. Residents of Japan will be able to see the flame of the 32nd Olympic Games only after prior application on a special online platform.

The flame of the Games of the 32nd Olympiad in Tokyo was lit on 12 March 2020 in ancient Olympia. The relay started in Greece, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it was shortened, and after the flight to Japan due to the postponement of the start, the flame was placed in storage in a place with increased security.

The Torch Relay of the 32nd Olympic Games, dubbed Hope Lights Our Way, will start in Fukushima Prefecture on 25 March and run for 121 days until 23 July.
