MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) – Young basketball players from four countries will compete for the medals of the 24th International Vladimir Ryzhenkov Basketball Memorial Tournament which is to kick off in Minsk on 27 December, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the competitions will be U16 teams from Belarus, Georgia, Russia, and Azerbaijan. Three-day one-robin tournament will name champions and medal winners. All the games will be played at the sports center of the Belarusian National Olympic School in 51 Filimonova Street. Entry is free. Belarus won the tournament in 2019. Last year the tournament was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The tournament in memory of First Sport and Tourism Minister and First President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Vladimir Ryzhenkov was established in 1996. For his services Vladimir Ryzhenkov was awarded the titles Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports, Honored Coach of the BSSR, the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR Award, an award and a commemorative medal of the International Olympic Committee.
