MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Belarus' world number 63 Ilya Ivashka has advanced into the 2021 Winston-Salem Open second round seeing off Italy's world number 88 Andreas Seppi 6-4, 6-4, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 36 Marin Cilic of Croatia. Belarus' world number 81 Egor Gerasimov kicked off his Winston-Salem Open run with a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-2 win over world number 112 Norbert Gombos of Slovakia. In the match for a spot in the round of Last 16 the Belarusian lost to France's world number 82 Richard Gasquet 6-7 (4-7), 6-7 (6-8).
The Winston-Salem Open will finish on 28 August. The world's best tennis players will head to New York for the season's final Grand Slam tournament – US Open, which is due to take place on 30 August-12 September.
