Call for systemic work with talented young athletes in Belarus

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – We need up to build systematic work with talented young athletes, Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said at a meeting to discuss Belarus' performance at the 2022 Winter Olympics and prospects of winter sports in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

"We must once again look at all levels of athletes' training starting from children's sports. We need to understand where we are, where we make mistakes, make adjustments and move forward. We have a lot of young talented athletes in the country. We need to build the right, systemic work with them," Sergei Kovalchuk said.

He noted that all federations and head coaches conducted an in-depth analysis of the performance of the Belarusian team at the Beijing Olympics, and set the tasks for the next Olympic cycle."Two medals are, of course, not the result that we should have expected considering the volume of funds that our state spends on the elite sport," the minister emphasized.
