Boki wins third Paralympic gold for Belarus

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Swimmer Ihar Boki has taken third gold medal for Belarus at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian secured another champion title. He clocked 3:58.18 to touch in first in the Men's 400m Freestyle S13. Kirylo Garashchenko of Ukraine finished second in 4:02.07. Bronze went to France's Alex Portal (4:06.39).

Earlier, the Belarusian won the Men's 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke with new records.

In the previous years Ihar Boki won 11 gold medals at the Paralympics in London in 2012 (5) and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 (6).

In the ongoing Games in Tokyo Belarusian athletes are competing in five sports.

At the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro Belarusian athletes won 10 (8 gold, 2 bronze) medals, placing 19th in the medal table. Since the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics Belarus has won a total of 98 (36, 32, 30) medals.

Some 4,000 athletes from 160 countries will compete at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. The Games will feature 539 medal events in 22 sports. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 5 September.
