MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – Belarusians players failed to progress into the Australian Open main draw, BelTA has learned.
In the first qualifying round Belarus’ world number 141 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to World No.119 Sijia Wei of China, 5-7, 6-4, 3-6. Belarus’ world number 210 Alena Falei lost 3-6, 5-7 to Australia’s world number 184 Arina Rodionova.
Players must win three qualifying matches to reach the main draw of the tournament, which begins on Sunday. Australian Open reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka, which currently goes 22nd in the world have direct entry into the main singles draw.
