Belarusians advance to 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships quarterfinals

MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) - Two Belarusian athletes remain in the medal hunt at the 2025 IBA Men's World Boxing Championships in Dubai, BelTA has learned.

Of the five representatives of Belarus who started the tournament, three reached the quarterfinal stage in their respective weight classes. Vadzim Vauchok (up to 67 kg) advanced without a fight after Serbia’s Vahid Abbasov withdrew. The Belarusian’s next opponent will be Armenia’s Hovhannes Bachkov. Aliaksei Alfiorau (up to 86 kg) defeated Tajikistan’s Parviz Karimov. Next, the 2021 World Championship silver medalist will face Peter Pita from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the round of 16 Dzianis Salotskikh lost to South Africa’s Masibulele Sigwela, Aliaksandr Radzionau (up to 71 kg) was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Ablaikhan Zhussupov, and Uladzislau Smiahlikau (over 92 kg) was medically withdrawn during his bout against Uzbekistan’s Arman Makhanov.

The quarterfinal bouts featuring the Belarusians are scheduled for 10 December. The semifinals will take place the following day, with the gold medal bouts planned for 13 December. In total, the 2025 international boxing event in Dubai has gathered more than 420 athletes from 108 countries.
