MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) - Belarusian strongman Vyacheslav Khoroneko has debuted in a new discipline – the Russian bench press – and immediately showed a strong performance, BelTA has learned.

During the international Golden Bear strength sports tournament in Minsk, the 64-year-old athlete bench-pressed a 100kg barbell nine times in a row, a feat few people his age in the world can accomplish. After his performance, Vyacheslav Khoroneko noted that this was the final stage of his preparation for his main event, which will take place on 21 September. At the upcoming international strongmen festival, he aims to significantly improve the world record in the Belarusian kettlebell lift – a one-handed lift of a two-pood kettlebell with a 5-minute time limit. The current world record for the Belarusian kettlebell lifter in this category is 130 lifts.

Vyacheslav Khoroneko currently holds nearly 90 official world records in freestyle kettlebell lifting. He is a multiple world champion, a winner of numerous major tournaments, and many of his achievements are recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
