Belarus win gold in archery at 3rd CIS Games

MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes have won two medals in the archery event at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan, BelTA has learned.

The victory in the mixed team event was secured by Belarusian athletes Ivan Zaikin and Daria Barsukova. In the first round, the Belarusians eliminated Tajikistan's Ansor Safarov and Amina Khurshedzoda. They then overcame the Russian duo of Aleksandra Tsydenova and Pavel Semenov in the semifinals, before proving more accurate than Kazakhstan's representatives, Raimbek Maikibayev and Anastasia Solodovnikova, in the gold medal match.

Additionally, Daria Barsukova, Yana Nakhaichuk, and Katsiaryna Karpyuk won bronze in the women's team event after defeating the team from Azerbaijan in the match for third place.

The 3rd CIS Games are underway across seven Azerbaijani cities: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Shaki, Goygol, and Khankendi. The international event has brought together over 1,600 athletes under the age of 23 from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Cuba, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Oman. The Belarusian delegation includes 241 athletes competing in 21 sport disciplines. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 8 October.
