MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) - On the second day of the Ivan Yarygin Cup in Krasnoyarsk, Belarusian wrestlers secured a full set of medals (gold, silver, and bronze), BelTA has learned.
Kseniya Tsiarenia became the winner in the women’s -65 kg event. On her way to the podium, the Belarusian defeated Kseniya Samuilova from Tver Oblast, Yekaterina Koshkina from Tatarstan, Dinara Kudayeva and Khanum Velieva (both from Krasnoyarsk Krai).
Natallia Varakina won silver in the women’s -50 kg event. The Belarusian defeated three Russians representing Krasnodar Krai, Perm Krai, and the Republic of Khakassia, but lost in the final to the reigning world champion from North Korea, Won Myong-gyong.
On 30 January, Aryan Tsiutryn won bronze in the men’s -57 kg event. In the medal bout, the Belarusian was stronger than Muhammet Karavuş from Turkiye. Sviatlana Kotenka (-50 kg) also contended for a spot on the podium, but lost the medal match to Aktenge Keunimzhaeva from Uzbekistan.
Tomorrow, the wrestlers will compete for five sets of medals, and on the final day of the Yarygin Cup, 1 February, the winners in eight categories will be determined. Wrestlers from Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Brazil, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, China, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Mongolia, South Korea, North Macedonia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are taking part in the competition in Krasnoyarsk.
