MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes will take part in the major Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 tournament. This has become possible thanks to the long-term partnership between the Presidential Sports Club and the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee, BelTA has learned.
Athletes over 30 years old will compete in the event in the UAE capital. Belarus will be represented by Special Olympics athletes who have extensive experience competing at the largest international tournaments - the Special Olympics World and European Games. At the Open Masters Games in Abu Dhabi, Belarusians will vie for medals in athletics competitions: races over various distances, high jump and long jump, hammer throw, and shot put.
The Belarusian delegation includes individuals from the Glusk residential care home for children and young people Vesnovo. This is a social service institution for children with disabilities and young people with special psychophysical development, Larisa Tabolina, Executive Director of the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee, explained. The brothers Oleg and Aleksandr Medovsky, Anna Pestova, Alesya Poznyak, and Grigory Dyuvbakov will take to the sports arenas. Their coach Aleksandr Petrov has been actively promoting the ideas of Special Olympics for over 30 years, preparing the individuals for participation in regional, national, and world-level competitions. Despite all life’s difficulties, they remain open, disciplined, and incredibly positive people, serving as a bright example of how hard work and a coach’s support can turn dreams into world-level medals.
The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 will be the largest multi-sport event. Over 25,000 athletes from more than 120 countries will take part in it. On 6-15 February, they will compete for medals in 33 sports. These include football, basketball, volleyball, rugby, athletics, swimming, cycling, tennis, badminton, judo, karate, Muay Thai, sailing regattas, canoe races, as well as a unique local pastime - camel racing.
