MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Raman Svirydzenka has won his second individual medal in cross-country skiing at the XIV Winter Paralympic Games in Italy, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian athlete became a medalist in the 10km interval start classic race in the LW2-LW9 categories (standing athletes with limb impairments). At the finish, Svirydzenka’s time of 27 minutes and 38.4 seconds earned him the silver medal. France’s Karl Tabouret outpaced the Belarusian by nearly half a minute to take gold, while Canadian Mark Arendz claimed bronze, finishing 25 seconds behind Roman. The race saw 25 competitors at the start line.
On 10 March, Svirydzenka won Paralympic gold in the classic sprint. Earlier on 11 March, compatriot Darya Fedzkovich finished in the top ten in the women’s interval start race in the same category. Meanwhile, in the LW10-LW12 classes (sitting athletes), Lidziya Loban and Valiantsina Biryla claimed 11th and 14th place respectively; both Belarusians had reached the sprint semifinals on 10 March.
In total, the XIV Paralympic Winter Games have brought together more than 600 athletes from 55 countries in Italy. The skiers now have two days of rest ahead. Relay races are scheduled for 14 March, and individual 20 km freestyle races will take place on the final day of the Paralympics, 15 March.
