Belarus secure second win at Handball Friendship Cup in Moscow

MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian national handball team has claimed its second victory at the international Handball Friendship Cup 2026 tournament in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

In match against Russia’s second national team on 6 January, the Belarusian side won with a 14-goal advantage, 36-22. The top scorer for the winners was Ihar Bialiavski, who found the opponents’ net seven times, followed by Pavel Duda with five goals.

On 5 January, the Belarusian national team defeated the Chinese team with a score of 34-22. The most productive player for the Belarusians was Artsem Karalek, who secured seven goals.

In the final match on 7 January, Yuri Shevtsov’s squad will face the Russian national team, which won its opener against Russia’s second team 41-26 and will play against the Chinese handball players on 6 January.

At the end of 2025, the Belarusian handball players successfully played two away friendlies against the Qatar national team. The Belarusians claimed a 26-21 victory in the first match in Doha, followed by a hard-fought 18-17 win over the home team.
