Belarus’ Sasnovich makes winning start at 2026 Brisbane International

MINSK, 2 January (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich has made a winning start at the 2026 Brisbane International in Australia, with a prize pool of $1.2 million, BelTA has learned.

In the first qualifying round on 2 January, the world No. 114 from Belarus scored a straight-sets victory 6-2, 6-2 over Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova (No.131). A place in the main draw is on the line in her next match against Uzbekistan’s Maria Timofeeva (No.141).

The main draw of the 2026 Brisbane International will be held on 4-11 January. Last year’s edition was clinched by world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, who overcame Russia’s Polina Kudermetova in the final.
