MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - Belarusian figure skater Viktoriia Safonova held her first official training session in Milan ahead of her performance at the 25th Winter Olympic Games, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.
Participants in the women single skating event will present their short programs on 17 February. Medals will be contested on 19 February following the free skating performances.
“During the official practice, I realized that the ice here is a bit different. I’m used to skating on another surface. I won’t say it’s worse or better, it’s just different. As for my run-through, I’m not entirely satisfied with it. The beginning wasn’t great, but I’ll chalk that up to adaptation. After that, I did everything well, without mistakes. There’s still enough time to practice before the short program,” Viktoriia Safonova said. “In Milan, I want to skate with pleasure and feel the whole atmosphere while giving it my all. I’ll be taking the ice first in the starting order. At the Russian Grand Prix stages, I also always open the competitions, so I’m used to it. I try not to think about it; I just need to go out and perform the program without mistakes.”
The 25th Winter Olympic Games have brought together 2,900 athletes from 94 countries in Italy. The Belarusian team is represented by seven athletes. The Games 2026 will be over on 22 February.
