MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes have secured eight medals at the international speed skating event Commonwealth Cup in Moscow, BelTA learned from the Belarus’ NOC press service.
On the final day of the tournament, men competed for the 1500m title. Ignat Golovatsiuk of Belarus claimed victory with a time of 1:48.44, while his fellow Belarusian Yahor Damaratski took second place, just 0.14 seconds behind. Earlier, Ignat had proven to be the best in the 1000m event, and Yahor celebrated success in the 5000m distance. Another Belarusian, Viktor Rudenko, finished seventh.
Belarus won a total of four gold and four silver medals in the tournament at the Krylatskoye Ice Palace. Next, the Belarusian team will travel to Kolomna near Moscow, where they will participate in the final international competition of the season – the Russian Cup Final. The top 24 athletes based on their performances across all Cup stages will compete for the medals from 5 to 7 March.
