Belarus defeat Kazakhstan in 2025 Channel One Cup

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) - The Belarusian national ice hockey team has won the first match of the 2025 Channel One Cup in Russia’s Novosibirsk, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Kvartalnov’s squad faced the team from Kazakhstan on 12 December. The opening period ended with a narrow lead for Belarus, with Roman Gorbunov scoring the sole goal. In the second period, Belarus extended the score to a comfortable lead: first, Vadim Moroz capitalized on a power play from an Ivan Drozdov pass, two minutes later Ivan Drozdov scored himself, and later assisted Alexander Skorenkov.

The Kazakh team managed to score one goal in the final stanza. The game ended 4-1 in favor of Belarus. On 13 December, Belarus will face the Russia 25 team. The match at the Sibir Arena is scheduled to start at 14:00 Minsk time.

This marks the fourth consecutive time the Belarusian national hockey team is taking part in the Channel One Cup. Belarus claimed the trophy in 2022, and finished in second place in the two previous seasons.
