MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – Belarusian athlete Aliaksei Alfiorau has advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Dubai, BelTA has learned.
Competing in the 86kg weight category, Aliaksei Alfiorau advanced past Congolese opponent Peter Pita in the quarterfinals. He will now face Armenian Rafayel Hovhannisyan in the semifinal. A loss at this stage will still earn him a bronze medal, as the competition does not feature a third-place match. This continues his success on the international stage: Alfiorau claimed silver at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Serbia and was a finalist at 2024 European Amateur Boxing Championships, also held there.
Also in action on 10 December was Belarusian Vadzim Vauchok (67kg), who was defeated in his quarterfinal by Olympic medalist Hovhannes Bachkov of Armenia. Earlier, the runs of fellow Belarusians Dzianis Salotskikh (57kg), Aliaksandr Radzionau (71kg), and Uladzislau Smiahlikau (+92kg) ended in the round of 16.
The semifinals of 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships will be held on 11 December, with the finals scheduled for 13 December. The season’s major event in Dubai has gathered over 420 athletes from 108 countries.
