Volodin: Poland has used gas, firearms rejecting all humanist values

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – In defiance of all humanist values Poland has used gas and firearms against people, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin wrote in his Telegram channel commenting on the situation at the Belarusian-Polish border, BelTA informs.

“The reason for what is happening is the long-term policy of the United States and the European Union in the Middle East. Most of the refugees are from the countries where NATO sent its troops to build democracy to their own model, to impose their own standards. Libya, Iraq, Syria - none of these states benefited from the international expansion of the West. And now citizens of these countries are forced to seek asylum. The European Union is not rushing to help Belarus out in this situation, like it helped, for example, Turkey or Italy. Quite the opposite. With its consent and in defiance of all humanist values Poland used gas and firearms against people. We do not hear any statements condemning such radical actions. Instead, they are brandishing their weapons and threatening Belarus with sanctions. What is this if not double standards?” Vyacheslav Volodin said.

The Russian parliament speaker is convinced that in this situation international organizations - the Council of Europe, PACE, the OSCE and the European Parliament - would better stop shifting responsibility and help refugees.

“For our part, we will support Belarus that found itself in a difficult situation as it faced an influx of migrants. The position of the country's leadership deserves respect. This cannot be said about those who created the problem by their actions. We will certainly raise this issue at the upcoming session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia,” the State Duma speaker added.
