Volfovich sums up preliminary results of Belarusian army inspection

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The military units that underwent a snap combat readiness inspection at the president’s instruction are capable of carrying out their missions, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told journalists following his report to the head of state on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

Delivering an interim report on the Armed Forces combat readiness inspection ordered by the president, Aleksandr Volfovich noted that the personnel had proven themselves fully capable. “There are shortcomings, and all of them will be analyzed. But our task is not simply to grade those we are inspecting, but to identify weaknesses, see what didn’t work out, and what to focus on in training officers,” he stated. “Preliminarily, I would like to note that while working at the training grounds, the personnel were eager to show results. I want to say that our military units are capable of fulfilling their tasks.”

Aleksandr Volfovich said that the second stage of the Armed Forces combat readiness inspection aimed to cover the broadest possible spectrum of tasks. “Tasks included loading supplies onto vehicles, drawing ammunition from designated depots, and conducting marches over various distances. Moreover, different military units were assigned different routes,” he added.

According to the state secretary of the Security Council, the troops carried out both a foot march to the training grounds and a vehicle-mounted advance to designated positions. During the march, each unit was engaged by Internal Troops, who acted as a simulated enemy. This engagement was carried out using UAVs as well. Here Aleksandr Volfovich noted the importance of electronic warfare assets.

“The units of the 120th Brigade have received our electronic warfare systems, which were mounted on equipment. The quadcopter attacks on the moving columns failed to disrupt them. In other words, our systems proved effective and and in the near future they will be supplied to other military units as well,” Aleksandr Volfovich said. “The special military operation shows that without such electronic warfare systems, not a single Russian or Ukrainian column moves. In my opinion, electronic warfare systems are the most effective for protecting or ensuring the safety of personnel.”

The final part of this stage involved control exercises at training grounds in firearms and physical training: “Marksmanship and physical stamina of servicemen are the cornerstone of battlefield performance. That’s where we placed the emphasis, as our president demanded.”
The state secretary of the Security Council pointed to the fact that the difficult weather left a particular imprint on the inspection. In February, the frosts gave way to a thaw, leading to fog and poor visibility, especially in the morning hours. Furthermore, the progress of the inspection was affected by freezing rain, which caused icing on certain types of weapons and military equipment.

“This presented a certain difficulty. But who will choose the weather in a real battle? Therefore, the servicemen operated in conditions as close to real as possible,” Aleksandr Volfovich stated.

As BelTA previously reported, a large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces, ordered by the president of Belarus, began on 16 January. The primary goal is to obtain an objective picture, assess the actual state of the troops, and evaluate the actions of military personnel. This is precisely why they are carried out without prior notice.A new system has been implemented that allows the president to directly place military units on combat readiness, circumventing the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff.

The president signs a directive classified as “secret”, which outlines the concept of the upcoming inspection. State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich receives a sealed package containing the document, after which he travels to the military unit designated by the head of state. By order of the Belarusian leader, Chairman of the State Control Committee Vasily Gerasimov is also involved in conducting the inspection.

Aleksandr Lukashenko maintains personal oversight of the inspection’s progress and regularly receives reports from the state secretary of the Security Council.
