Volfovich reveals president’s top priorities in snap military readiness check

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich explained which aspects of the snap Armed Forces readiness check the president of Belarus focuses on, BelTA has learned.

Commenting on the progress of the Armed Forces snap inspection, Aleksandr Volfovich noted that the Commander-in-Chief is briefed almost daily with interim results. According to him, during the briefing on 28 January, the president was provided with a detailed report on the outcomes achieved over the days of the inspection.

“The president is primarily interested in objectivity and a comprehensive approach to solving the tasks assigned to the military unit under inspection. He is interested in every detail. Of course, the main criteria for evaluating any organization are its people and equipment. The president is interested in how well the staffs are prepared to understand the assigned tasks and to make decisions backed by calculations. The president says: if an officer is prepared to receive and solve a task, then the personnel will carry it out no matter what. The training of officers is crucial, and the president pays considerable attention to this,” the state secretary of the Security Council said.

Attention is also paid to how well the personnel and specialists know the weaponry and military equipment entrusted to them, and how professionally they use it to engage targets at training grounds.

“The President takes an interest in virtually all aspects. Naturally, this covers the state of weapons and hardware, their storage facilities, and whether the unit being checked has adequate supplies. Every one of these points is examined,” Aleksandr Volfovich emphasized. “I would like to stress: as meticulously as the president monitors the execution of his directives, he shows equal care for the people. He was interested in how the personnel are clothed, shod, and fed in such inclement weather, and in the preparedness of heating areas at the training grounds. Whether there is hot tea, whether there is additional rations during field exercises. The president is interested in all these details, down to the smallest points.”

The state secretary of the Security Council added that the president is attentive to both the physical stamina and the mental wellbeing of the troops, questioning how ready all personnel, from officers to soldiers, are to execute their assigned tasks.

Aleksandr Valfovich noted that only the Commander-in-Chief knows which military units will be inspected and when. “I receive the order from him and, accordingly, carry out his instructions. I go to the military unit and hand it [the order] to the commander. I would like to note that analysis has shown: commanders confidently receive the order, read about the task set by the Commander-in-Chief, and carry it out. Some perform better, others worse. That is precisely why these inspections are conducted,” he added.

Following the inspection, a detailed analysis will be conducted, taking into account any shortcomings identified. Nevertheless, the state secretary of the Security Council remarked that even now, the desire and determination of the personnel to show their best is evident. “Every commander must be prepared to carry out their task. And the tasks are determined based on the issues facing the military unit in accordance with the country’s defense plan. Therefore, [the servicemen] will carry out the duties they are meant for. A tanker won’t fly a plane, and a pilot won’t drive a tank,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

According to Aleksandr Volfovich, the head of state stood at the origins of the creation of the Belarusian army. “It was his decision, made over 30 years ago, to establish the modern Belarusian Armed Forces in the very composition and organizational structure in which they exist today. The decision was absolutely correct and timely. The president, like no one else, knows the goals and tasks facing the Armed Forces and the condition they must be in. Therefore, he is interested not only in the progress of the snap inspection but also in the daily life of the Armed Forces,” he emphasized.

The state secretary assured that the president fully understands that the guarantor of any state’s security is a professionally trained Armed Forces. “Our security depends on how prepared and capable the Armed Forces are to solve the tasks assigned to them. These large-scale inspections, conducted by the decision of the head of state, precisely allow for an assessment of the professionalism and readiness of our Armed Forces to defend national interests,” Aleksandr Volfovich added.

As BelTA has reported earlier, the large-scale inspection of the Armed Forces on the order of the head of state began on 16 January. Aleksandr Lukashenko is personally overseeing its progress. A new system has been developed whereby the president, bypassing the Defense Ministry and the General Staff, places military units on combat alert. The primary goal of such an inspection is to see the objective picture. This is precisely why the checks are conducted without warning.
