BREST OBLAST, 12 March (BelTA) – State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich spoke about the reaction of neighboring countries to the snap inspection of Belarus’ Air Force and Air Defense Forces, BelTA has learned.
According to Aleksandr Volfovich, a comprehensive range of activities is planned for this branch of the Armed Forces. Units were unexpectedly put on combat alert and deployed to the positional zones designated by the commission of the State Secretariat of the Security Council.
“Yesterday, the next stage of the snap inspection began. The inspection tests the ability of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces command to control forces, track targets, and assign destruction missions – that is, to defend the airspace of our country. This, I must say, caused concern among our neighbors, Poland and Lithuania. Yesterday, they scrambled reconnaissance aircraft in the bordering area,” the state secretary of the Security Council said.
Aleksandr Volfovich noted that the western neighbors’ concern was unwarranted. “We posed no threat to our neighbors, and that was never our intention. In general, we avoided conducting training exercises near the border. They were held deep within the country, mostly in the eastern regions,” he emphasized.
The inspection of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces continues on 12 March. This stage involves firing exercises.
