Ukraine to deepen Pripyat River by May 2020

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – Ukraine plans to increase the depth of the Pripyat River by May 2020, Ukrainian Minister for Infrastructure Vladislav Krykliy informed Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Avramenko in Zhitomir, BelTA has learned.

The ministers discussed pressing issues of cooperation at the meeting. They agreed to continue working together to enable transportation on the E40 waterway. Ukraine said that it will increase the depth of the Pripyat River by 1 May 2020, and Belarus will synchronize its works with Ukraine on the Belarusian sector of the river (up to Mozyr).

Belarus and Ukraine also agreed to continue cooperation in increasing the volume of cargo transportation by rail and the acceleration of freight traffic by rail in the Ukraine-Belarus direction. There are plans to consider a possibility of issuing a transit visa for the EU citizens traveling by the Kiev-Minsk-Vilnius-Riga train on board a train. This is expected to make the travel easier and to increase the passenger flow on this route.

The ministers also discussed air service and road transport. Vladislav Krykliy said that Ukraine will propose a range of measures related to the maintenance of the bridge over the Slovechna River and the M21 highway (Vystupovichi- Zhitomir-Mogilev- Podolsk) through Vinnitsa.
