MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko enjoys the trust and respect of U.S. President Donald Trump, as evidenced by the invitation for Belarus to become a founding member of the Board of Peace, former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Nikolai Azarov said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Trump did not select these heads of state randomly: he chose those who he has a certain level of trust in. The fact that Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] was among them shows that, in terms of prestige, he enjoys respect and confidence[of the US government],” Nikolai Azarov said.
The former Ukrainian prime minister noted that the Board of Peace is a new international organization, the creation of which is part of the peace plan for Gaza. “Gaza is practically destroyed. I once watched a video produced by Al Jazeera, and it was impossible to watch without pain. The scale of reconstruction will be enormous,” he added. “Around 2 million people live there, and all of them must be provided with housing, basic utilities, and elementary infrastructure. Naturally, demining must be carried out and debris removed.”
At the same time, Nikolai Azarov stressed that the most important task is to stop the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
As it was previously reported, the Belarusian side received a personal address from U.S. President Donald Trump to President Aleksandr Lukashenko of the Republic of Belarus. In this address, within the framework of efforts to resolve the Gaza situation, Belarus was invited to serve as a founding member of the Board of Peace, a newly established international organization.
The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the country is prepared to participate in the work of the Board of Peace, with the consideration and hope that this organization will expand its scope and authority far beyond the mandate outlined in the initiative. This will enable it to take an active part in global processes aimed at resolving any international conflicts.
