Tentative plans for setting up microelectronics industrial group in Belarus

MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus suggests creating a major industrial group specializing in microelectronics. Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov made the statement after meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 18 October, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Gusakov said: “We suggest setting up a large industrial group in the area of microelectronics in Belarus. It will unite all the manufacturers and developers of not only the Academy of Sciences but the Industry Ministry, other ministries and government agencies. So that we could resolve this problem in totality starting with microchip production and ending with digital twins, creation of electronic systems for branches of the national economy: mechanical engineering, healthcare, and so on.”

Vladimir Gusakov suggested that Integral Company or the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus should head the industrial group. The possibility will be looked into soon, including at major events involving the head of state and the scientific community.

Vladimir Gusakov also remarked that the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has been developing as a scientific and manufacturing corporation for the last few years. The academy focuses not only on fundamental and applied science but also on manufacturing and sales. About 100 various manufacturing enterprises are part of the academy. They are divided into clusters, which unite scientists in various spheres, including not only scientists from the academy but other bodies, too. “We will work with very many academies of sciences and research centers of the world despite the coronavirus pandemic and the pressure of sanctions on Belarus. In science we continue cooperation rather well starting with Japan and ending with the USA. We have orders, joint projects, sales, and so on,” the official noted.
