Sources of up-to-date information on candidates in Belarus’ 2024 elections revealed

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) - Igor Golubitsky, Head of the Department of Constitutional and International Law of the Belarus National Center of Legislation and Legal Research, spoke about the sources of the relevant information about the candidates to the House of Representatives and the local councils of deputies in the latest episode of BelTA's The Nation Speaks project.

"There are questions about where to get information about the candidates, about their achievements, career paths and so on. Indeed, the Commission provides the necessary information. But the point is that campaigning is the job of a candidate. It is up to candidates to show how good they are in delivering results. An election is a kind of litmus test. If a person can win in a competitive environment, it means that they are good enough,"Igor Golubitsky said.

He also suggested surfing the internet for the information about the candidates. "Now the electoral legislation has a norm that says that the internet can be used for campaigning. Many people create their own Telegram accounts. Thanks to this people can get more information about the candidates whose task is to present themselves in the best light," the expert added.
