MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – The working group on finalizing the new Constitution draft proceeded from the principle ‘to preserve the best and lay a foundation for the country's further development', Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko told reporters at the joint meeting of the Constitutional Commission and the working group on finalizing the new Constitution draft on 25 November, BelTA informs.
“Our entire work relied on the principle ‘to preserve the best and lay a foundation for the country's further development',” Igor Sergeyenko said. According to him, 77 articles were amended, 11 new articles were introduced and a new chapter was proposed. The preamble of the Constitution draft reads that the preservation of national identity and sovereignty, cultural and spiritual traditions are of fundamental importance. “These norms were a response to the social request to consolidate our national and state identity. After all, a state can be truly independent only with a strong nation,” Igor Sergeyenko stressed.
In his opinion, the proposed amendments are relevant and are in sync with the ongoing political and economic processes in the country. The concept of interaction between government agencies formalized in the Constitution draft will ensure the effectiveness and stability of the entire political system of the country, Igor Sergeyenko is convinced.
