Sergeyenko explains relevance of legislative decisions of Belarus' parliament

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – At a meeting of the second session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus of the eighth convocation, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko cited examples of legislative decisions that were necessitated by the reality on the ground, which is what the head of state constantly demands from parliamentarians, BelTA has learned.

The chairman of the House of Representatives spoke about the work of deputies over the year. “Each of us came to the House of Representatives with our personal and professional experience, with our knowledge and competencies. During this time, we have been actively involved in legislative and inter-parliamentary activities, outreach campaigns in the districts. A total of 28 meetings of the House of Representatives were held, including 5 joint meetings with the Council of the Republic; 65 laws were adopted,” Igor Sergeyenko noted.

According to him, all of them sought to address acute problems facing the country's economy and society, like protecting domestic producers, improving a business environment, promoting international cooperation, and liberalizing criminal legislation. The necessary adjustments were made to the Tax Code.

Of particular interest to the public is the updated law “On state registration of real estate, rights to it and transactions with it.” It allows for the prompt registration of real estate transactions regardless of its location, and improves the accuracy of information included in the state register.

Amendments to the law “On road traffic” are designed to help agricultural organizations address personnel issues, give them more tools to hire young people as operators of tractors and self-propelled vehicles.

“All of these laws were prompted by the reality on the ground, and this is what the head of state constantly demands from parliamentarians,” Igor Sergeyenko emphasized.

The expansion of social benefits for veterans of the Great Patriotic War, former prisoners of fascism, and veterans of foreign wars are also part of these efforts. Additional support was provided to disabled people and families raising children, the chairman of the House of Representatives remarked.

Much-needed amendments were made to the laws on employment, marriage and family relations. The Education Code was fine-tuned.

According to Igor Sergeyenko, the deputies are busy studying law enforcement practices. To this end, they held parliamentary hearings on digital law, about 20 seminars, including three off-site ones, to discuss the implementation of civil initiatives and the operation of public services in line with the 'one-stop-shop' principle by the example of three districts of Brest Oblast. They also discussed the development of mechanical engineering in Zhodino, the investment and export potential of the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone. Just the other day, the House of Representatives hosted a seminar to discuss the implementation of legislation on land protection and use.

According to the chairman of the House of Representatives, parliamentarians also provide legislative support to efforts to promote integration within the Union State. This pertains to the formation of a common electricity market, implementation of a single industrial, technological, scientific and technical policy of Belarus and Russia.

The House of Representatives had ratified a strategically important document that recently entered into force - the Belarus-Russia Treaty on Security Guarantees within the Union State.
