Senators approve Belarus’ national security bill

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The bill “On amending national security laws” was approved at the meeting of the 11th session of the Council of the Republic of the seventh convocation,” BelTA has learned.

The bill amends the laws “On defense”, “On military duty and military service”, “On preparing for and carrying out mobilization”, “On martial law”, “On the exit from and entry into the Republic of Belarus of citizens of the Republic of Belarus”, “On contributions to the state extra-budgetary social security fund of the Republic of Belarus”, the Labor Code, the Code of Administrative Offenses, and the Procedural and Executive Code of Administrative Offenses.

In particular, the bill regulates voluntary participation in defense work in peacetime, and mandatory participation in such work when martial law is in effect. The bill provides for the possibility of notifying people about the need to show up at a military commissariat via text messages. The bill also seeks to amend the procedure for assessing the health status of conscripts. In addition to that, the bill updates the list of activities to prepare for and carry out mobilization.

The bill seeks to introduce comprehensive changes to national security laws of the Republic of Belarus to ensure prompt response to emerging challenges and threats.
