Semyon, 6, is youngest member of delegation of Belarusian uniformed agencies at Khatyn ceremony

LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) - Khatyn is a place of nationwide commemoration today. A delegation of the security, military and law enforcement agencies also joined the mass memorial vigil. The youngest of them is 6-year-old Semyon, BelTA learned.
Belarusian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov, who led the law enforcement delegation, came to lay flowers at the Eternal Flame in Khatyn together with children - future defenders of the Fatherland. Six-year-old Semyon brought roses.

Talking to journalists, Ivan Kubrakov told why the children are in Khatyn today. “Such events are very important for everyone, and, first of all, for our youth. As long as we remember our colleagues, remember our heroes who died during the Great Patriotic War, we will have peace and order on our land,” he said.

Ivan Kubrakov urged to pass the memory of heroes from generation to generation. “We see an example of what may happen to those who forget at our borders,” he explained, noting that cadets, lyceum students and pupils of military-patriotic clubs came to honor the memory of Khatyn. Semyon, for example, is one of such children. He is a member of the Orlyonok club.

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, who took part in the flower ceremony together with representatives of the Defense Ministry, said that on this day the military come to Khatyn to honor the memory of the fallen in silence, to the sound of bells. “You can use a lot of words to tell a story, or you can come to this sacred place and see everything with your own eyes. Any person who has a heart, here, in Khatyn, understands why we value peace and why we cherish it so much,” he noted.

Viktor Khrenin said that within the framework of the criminal investigation into the genocide of the Belarusian people, servicemen of the Armed Forces and specialists of the 52nd search battalion, together with employees of the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigative Committee, have already worked more than 100 search sites. “Unfortunately, the lists of the dead and executioners are getting longer. We do it not because we want to charge the descendants of executioners, but because we see how modern neo-Nazism is rearing its head on the rubble of destroyed monuments. On the example of neighboring countries we see what it can lead to, and we do not want the tragic history to repeat itself on our land,” he added.

Belarusian Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky, whose colleagues are also on a memorial watch in Khatyn today, said that the rescuers honor the important dates of history. “In its history Belarus came close to death and always revived. The country has experienced very tragic events that should never be forgotten. One of such dates is the tragedy in Khatyn, which is a monument to all the destroyed villages,” he said.
Chairman of the Belarusian State Committee of Forensic Examinations Aleksei Volkov said that the committee’s employees are directly involved in the investigation of the criminal case into the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. “Now when we realize the amount of white spots in our history, the amount of terrible crimes committed on our land, we understand that it was a true genocide. In the execution pits we find the remains of women, teenagers, small children,” he emphasized.
