MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – One of the reasons why the European Union is not ready to make peace on Ukraine is socio-economic one, Elena Ponomareva, Doctor of Political Science, Professor at MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations), said in a new episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].
Speaking on the topic of the European Union's unwillingness to make peace on Ukraine, Elena Ponomareva said: “Militarization makes it possible to rebuild the economy of the European Union, which is being killed by the United States and American transnational companies. What is happening now on the economic fronts cannot be called anything other than the killing of the most powerful economy in the world, as they called themselves, both in terms of the amount of products consumed and financial transactions,” the MGIMO professor said.
“Against this background, creating opportunities for the development of the military industry is a way out of this trap. If we look at the reports, the German automotive companies are struggling. They are closing down, but their sites will be used to produce shells, howitzers and so on. They are hiring people. One factory, for example, is hiring 15,000 workers, and these 15,000 have families, households, it is a large category of people. Qualified specialists are being recruited,” Elena Ponomareva said, adding that the payment of benefits and social support should also be taken into account.
She observed that, as in the 1930s, Germany sees the militarization of the economy as a way out of the economic trap set by the United States and the deep state.
