Putin: Russia, Belarus feel confident, secure despite Western pressure

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Despite the Western pressure, Russia and Belarus feel absolutely confident and secure, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 24 May, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Putin noted that ensuring defense and security is an extremely important area of cooperation between Belarus and Russia. “These are issues that are always on the radar of the president of Belarus and mine. We have always been engaged in the matter together with our colleagues from both sides, especially recently,” the president said.

“As for the attitude chosen by the Western community with regard to both Belarus and Russia (hostility, attempts to curb our development, to damage our sovereignty), no one has succeeded in this regard so far and, I am sure, they will never succeed. We feel absolutely confident and secure, and will strengthen our cooperation in these important areas of activity,” Vladimir Putin emphasized.

Speaking about the Union State construction, the head of state noted that the governments of the two countries have done a lot in this area recently. Conditions have been created for further cooperation in various sectors. “Strengthening the welfare of citizens of Belarus and Russia is our common task,” the president added.
