"On Point"
MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) - There are only two countries in the European Union whose leaders pursue independent policies in the interests of their people: Hungary and Slovakia, Polish political scientist and publicist Tomasz Gryguć said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Tomasz Gryguć pointed out that in the second round of the presidential election in Poland, there was no truly independent candidate who would serve Polish interests.
“Tusk's Civic Platform government does not serve Polish interests. But it is highly unlikely that Karol Nawrocki will balance the influence of the Civic Platform. Neither the Law and Justice Party nor the Civic Platform serve Polish interests. These are parties of national betrayal, and most Poles view them as such,” said Tomasz Gryguć.
The political scientist also mentioned the support for candidates such as Sławomir Mentzen and Grzegorz Braun: “This shows that in Poland, as in other countries, the so-called protest electorate is raising their heads. But we know very well that this is most often the so-called 'systemic opposition'. In other words, an opposition that does not threaten the system.”
According to him, Poles who are patriots of their country and want to change it for the better vote for candidates like Grzegorz Braun. This is done in the hope that such politicians will actually be able to change something. But, according to the political scientist, they are not capable of influencing anything, let alone the existing system in Poland.
“Let's leave alone this pre-election cabaret and the fact that Karol Nawrocki won. The more important question for us is whether individual European nations will be conscious and strong enough to rise from their knees and create truly autonomous governments in France, the Netherlands, and Poland,” Tomasz Gryguć emphasized.
In his opinion, Hungary, with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and Slovakia, with Prime Minister Robert Fico, can boast of having autonomous governments. “The rest of the European Union countries serve the military interests of the United States,” the political scientist concluded.
