BREST, 12 September (BelTA) – Poland has closed the border with Belarus, BelTA has learned.

On the bridge in front of the Brest border crossing Polish border service officers placed barbed wire, thus closing their own border. Above the barbed wire the Polish officers set up a metal fence. Several vehicles had been lining up to cross the border. They will have to return to Belarus.
According to the State Border Committee of Belarus, since 18:00 (Belarusian time) on 11 September the Polish side handed over 260 vehicles for clearance to enter Belarus. Citizens of Belarus and of other countries, including of Poland, crossed the border. The Belarusian border service processed anyone willing to leave the country.

On 11 September Poland’s Border Guard officially informed the State Border Committee of Belarus that border crossings at the Belarusian-Polish border will be closed as from 01:00 on 12 September. Those are the border crossings for automobiles (Brest-Terespol and Kozlovichi-Kukuryki) and four border crossings for trains (Grodno-Kuznica Bialostocka, Berestovitsa-Zubki Bialostockie, Svisloch-Siemianowka, and Brest-Terespol). The Polish side promised to release information about when the border crossings would be reopened later.

The Belarusian border crossings for automobiles at the Latvian border and the Lithuanian one operate routinely.
