PM examines progress in preparations for Victory Day celebrations in Belarus

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko held a meeting of the national organizing committee for the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders in 2024 and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War in 2025, BelTA learned.

“We worked hard last year and held a set of events to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. The events were held at a high organizational and ideological-political level and had a positive public feedback. Today we are at a certain equator of our committee's work. We are set to deliver high-quality events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Preparations for these events are already underway,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, a number of activities are organized and carried out in a routine manner. “They are about immortalizing the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, military search work, restoration and tidying up memorial sites. Special attention, of course, is paid to the care of veterans and persons who affected by the war,” the prime minister said.

“This year we need to focus on the events on 9 May 2025. The president has set a task to hold, along with the traditional events for such dates as the official grand meeting, gala concert and parade), another big event on the premises of the Minsk International Exhibition Center. Namely, to arrange an exhibition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory and showcasing the achievements of the modern Belarusian defense industry in order to highlight the continuity. The Defense Ministry, the Culture Ministry, and the State Authority for Military Industry have submitted certain proposals on this event, but they are hardly yet a full-fledged concept. Therefore, we will explore the main approaches and clarify the tasks today,” the head of government said.
