Plans to crack down on negligent virus carriers in Belarus

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – The parliament is looking into the possibility of introducing tougher measures for violating sanitary and epidemiological safety regulations, BelTA learned from Svetlana Lyubetskaya, Chairwoman of the Legislation Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

According to the source, the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament is working on new laws on administrative violations. It is necessary to bring the legislation as close to today's reality as possible in order to protect interests of all the population strata.

Some of the amendments have been prompted by people failing to observe sanitary and epidemiological safety regulations. Consequences of such failures can be extremely negative in today's world. This is why the parliament is considering the introduction of tougher punishments for such negligence, the MP noted. The MP reminded that foreign citizens and stateless persons are entitled to the same rights and have to follow the same regulations in Belarus as Belarusian citizens.

Svetlana Lyubetskaya stressed: “Today our safety directly depends on everyone, including the state, every individual, every commercial entity.” Members of the parliament encourage citizens to report facts of their visits to countries with an unfavorable epidemiological situation upon return to Belarus. Individuals should not try to conceal information about their health if symptoms of a disease that is dangerous for public health are clearly visible. Information about possible sources of infection and people the person has been in contact with should not be suppressed either.
