MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko talked about the conditions for Ukraine to restore the relations with Belarus in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“The end of the war is the only condition. This is my short answer. People will know what to do. Today in Ukraine there is only one TV channel. People are sent to jail for likes in social media. This is not a joke. This is not Russian propaganda. This is the reality,” Diana Panchenko said.
The Ukrainian journalist noted that she is facing life imprisonment in Ukraine for a Telegram post saying that Ukraine must hold peace talks in order to remain a state. “I am not kidding. This is what my criminal case says,” she stressed.
According to her, “once the war is over, once the propaganda machine is dismantled, Ukrainians, Belarusians and Russians will come to peace and mutual understanding." “This will not happen overnight. This will take some time, of course. Bit it will happen. Do you know why? Because you know you can try to change nature, turn back the rivers but nature will take its course. We are kin nations and we have always been so,” the journalist is sure.
She said that Ukraine fell victim to a monstrous experiment. “I had to write a book to describe all the horrors of this experiment. It did not happen overnight. Moreover, it did not start in 2014 or even 1991. The starting point was the end of the Great Patriotic War.”
Returning to the topic of Belarus Diana Panchenko noted that “at one point Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was the most popular foreign politician in Ukraine. Ukrainians adore Belarusians, Belarusians love Ukrainians,” the journalist added.
“ It is very easy to understand how everything will end if you analyze another story. Let’s take a look at the development of relations between Ukraine and Poland. Do you remember how warmly they treated each other at the beginning of the war? What do we see now? Today Ukrainian TV presenters are verbally abused on the streets. History is cyclical and in a way predictable,” the Ukrainian journalist said.
